Welcome to Art by Computer

I'm glad you dropped in. The images contained here are mostly fractals. I originally started creating them in 1997 using a freeware program for the Mac called MandelBrowser 3.0, by Jesse Jones. The learning curve was not steep - at first. As I got more into it I had to discover ways to bend it to my will, and especially coax it to make Really Large Fractals. The fractals you'll see here are like no others I've found on the Internet(s).

These were not generated as small, single page images and then expanded with Photoshop or other software just to make a large image. They are all generated at 300dpi at what I call "native size" throughout. Therefore, of course, the files have grown very large! 1.5GB is what I call an average size piece.

Also, I tried to keep my creations "artistic" in that they need to have some reason for existing other than they look "neat." Admittedly some are rather simple and others are "eye-boggling" in their complexity, yet I've tried to maintain some artistic content. It is difficult for the small monitor to capture the nature of a really large print. In many cases the finer details are completely gone from what you'll see here. That's unavoidable, I'm afraid. There's really no replacing stand directly in front of a 4' x 8' work that has excruciating detail - as fine as the eye can see.

Please do visit the gallery. The prints are for sale and details for that are on another page.

Enjoy!

February 2012 I'm still building this site.  I'm trying to add a links page.  I continue adding images as time permits.
